Active Minds is a national non-profit organization founded by Alison Malmon during her junior year at the University of Pennsylvania after her older brother died by suicide. The Arlington High School chapter was established in May 2019. This club is for students who are passionate about advocating for mental health awareness, reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness, encouraging peers to seek help with mental health challenges, and promoting a welcoming and accepting school environment for all students. This group of students is responsible for sponsoring activities, fundraising, raising awareness, and educating peers for the purpose of advocating for mental health awareness and normalizing the conversations surrounding this topic. The group will meet once a month during STRIPES, but there are ongoing opportunities for engagement including club-sponsored events, local advocacy and awareness campaigns, and community outreach/service projects.
